THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completes a new 4-storey maritime facility that will serve as the headquarters for Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in Region 6.
An inauguration ceremony for the new building was spearheaded by Angkla Partylist Representative Jesulito A. Manalo, MARINA Administrator Rey Leonardo B. Guerero, Iloilo Provincial Governor Arthur D. Defensor Sr., Iloilo City Lone District Representative Jerry P. TreƱas and MARINA 6 Regional Director Rizal J. Victoria and DPWH Regional Office VI represented by Construction Division Chief, Engr. Ormel G. Santos
Engineer Santos said the ship-inspired building with roof deck and elevator was constructed along Muelle Loney Street in Iloilo City and received an allocation of P59.4 million under 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Built to house MARINA employees and cater to the needs of seafarers in the region, the new MARINA Region 6 Building is also the first ever constructed MARINA Regional Office building in the country.
“With the construction of MARINA building, we hope to advance the interest of the Ilonggo’s maritime sector, promote maritime development, and provide safety through better information, cooperation and unity of effort among stakeholders of the maritime industry,” said Engineer Santos.##
