DSWD RELEASES 17,000 FAMILY FOOD PACKS FOR BORACAY

(press release) THE DSWD Field Office VI has started releasing family food packs numbering to 17,000 for Boracay closure-affected families.

“This is the first time that we are releasing goods in boxes here in the region. Most of the rice are in vacuum sealed packs,” said Rebecca P. Geamala, regional director.

The households, based on registered  Disaster Assistance Family Access Cards issued, is 10,880, of which 5,881 are in Brgy. Manocmanoc, 3,480 in  Balabag; and 1,519 in Yapak, and the number is still growing because of the temporary residents (more than 6months). Their applications to be registered with DAFAC were not considered by the BLGU before election.

“But this time, they will be served. Nobody will be left behind. This is why we are bringing in packs more than the number of households. We will serve even temporary residents who have been in the island for at least six months,” said Geamala.

Each box contains  rice, assorted canned goods and coffee amounting to P417.
Aside from this, the DSWD continues in implementing response efforts for those affected by the closure.

A total of 17,018 clients  were helped through  the Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situation in transportation, medical, educational and burial assistance amounting to P41.2 million.

On Sustainable Livelihood Program, P106.7 million was released in livelihood assistance grants to 7,119 persons with P15,000 each.

On Cash for Work implementation, 5,126 individuals availed with a P29.6 million released in form of assistance./dswd6
