DISPLACED BORACAY WORKERS URGED TO AVAIL ASSISTANCE

(Press Release) The labor department is reaching out to thousands of displaced and suspended workers affected by the temporary closure of Boracay to avail of its comprehensive package assistance under its Adjustment Measures Program (AMP).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said only 10,000 affected workers have so far applied for the program out of the 20,000 registered workers, who are expected to avail of the integrated assistance package, which includes P4,200 monthly financial support for six months, employment facilitation, and training.

“We urge all displaced, suspended Boracay workers in the formal sector to avail of the financial assistance provided by our President. They should be informed that there is available assistance fund waiting for them, which can help them cope from the temporary closure of Boracay,” Bello said.

The AMP, which is under the Boracay Emergency Employment Program (BEEP), aims to enhance the employability and competitiveness of the beneficiaries, as well as mitigate the adverse economic impact of the island’s rehabilitation.

Interested applicants may submit the duly accomplished BEEP AMP Application Form; photocopy of certificate of employment; photocopy of any government-issued ID; and proof of Land Bank of the Philippines account to DOLE Regional Office VI, or any of its Field Offices.

For affected workers who have gone back to their hometown, they may submit their applications to the nearest DOLE Regional/Field/Satellite Offices.

Meanwhile, Bello said that the informal sector workers and indigenous people affected by the closure of the island can also apply for assistance under its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, which provides emergency employment in a form of 30-day community work.###Abegail De Vega, DOLE
