ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Aklan District Engineering Office is currently undertaking the construction of Tourism and Trade Investment and Promotion Center in the province of Aklan.
According to District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella, an initial amount of P20.0 million from District’s FY 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA), released to commence the construction.
Fuentebella also said that the groundbreaking was conducted recently, graced by Senator Loren Legarda, along with Aklan Provincial Government headed by Governor Florencio T. Miraflores, and DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office, represented by Assistant District Engineer Leo P. Bionat
During the groundbreaking, Legarda said that the initial amount of P20.0 million will not be enough for the completion of the project, adding that she will find ways to look for additional funding to finish the project.
The project, which is expected to be completed in July next year, involves the construction of 3-Storey building with roof deck, including removal of structures and obstructions, excavation, embankment, concrete and masonry works, and cement plaster finishing work.
Also included in the project are fabrication and installation of doors and windows, tiles and sewer line works, as well as installation of storm drainage and downspout, conduit, boxes and fittings, and panel board.
When completed, the building will serve as venue for seminars, trainings and product presentations. It will also house various offices, catering tourism and trade investment sectors.
The project is expected to boost tourism in the province and provide livelihood to the Akeanons, adding to tourism development brought about by the reopening of the world renowned Boracay Island. – dpwhr6
