8 out of 10 first born in Aklan are illegitimate

AKLAN RECORDED a total of 4, 478 first born children in 2018 according to Philippine Statistics Authority.

Of the total eldest children, 3, 475 or 78 percent are illegitimate, while 1, 003 or 22 percent are legitimate.

The highest number of illegitimate first born was recorded in Kalibo with 2, 041, followed by Ibajay with 319, and Malay with 266.

Illegitimate children are those who were conceived and born to parents out of wedlock.

Meanwhile, most of the first born registered last year were males with 51% (or 2, 290), while females comprise 49% or (2,188).

Majority of the eldest were born when the mother was at the age of 20 years old with 8% (or 438) and to father at the age of 22 years old with 7% (or 327).

Eldest children were mostly born at the hospital with 74% (or 3,336), while those at home accounts for 24% (or 1, 090).

Physician was the most popular attendant at birth by first born with 69% (or 3,082), followed by hilot with 22% (or 971), midwife with 6% (or 338), and nurse with less than one percent (or 23).

According to PSA these data were derived from the certificate of live birth submitted by local civil registry offices every end of the month. / PSA-Aklan
