Tinawag ni board member Nolly Sodusta na isang harassment ng gobyerno ang pagsampa ng kaso ng National Bureau of Investigation sa kanya at sa maraming iba pa dahil sa mga paglabag sa environmental laws sa Isla ng Boracay.“Please join me then my colleagues not for my sake but for the sake of Boracaynons who are similarly situated to ask the government to stop this harassment of the people in the Island,” sabi niya sa kanyang privilege speech sa regular session ng Sanggunian.
Ikinalungkot umano niya na sa halip na tulungan ang mga tao sa Boracay kabilang na ang mga nakatira sa forest land ay kinasuhan pa ng gobyerno. “I thought that the government has a plan to relocate those in the forest zone but it seems that indeed the government has the plan to relocate them including me but to the detention area or maybe into jails.”
Ayon sa report, si Sodusta ay dawit sa mga kasong isinampa ng NBI sa Department of Justice sa mga paglabag sa Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act at paglabag sa Local Government Code of 1991 sa pagiging shareholders ng Boracay Tanawin Resorts at Denichi Boracay Corporation na pawang nakatayo sa mga forest land.
“I stand to clarify that my membership in this august body is not anyway related to the alleged cases filed…. This is about the two corporations that we were shareholders before,” paglilinaw ng opisyal sa pagkakadawit niya at ng kanyang asawa sa mga nasabing kaso.
Una nang sinabi ng board member na lehitimo ang operasyon ng mga nasabing korporasyon na pinasok niya at bago pa man umano madeklara na forestland ang ilang bahagi sa Isla ng Boracay ay nakatayo na ang mga resort na ito doon.
Kaugnay rito humingi siya ng suporta sa mga kasama sa Sanggunian na hilingin sa gobyerno na maghanap ng ibang paraan para ipatupad ang mga environmental laws sa Isla para hindi na magdulot ng dagdag na pasanin pa sa mga tao. “Surely there are other ways than this one,” sabi niya. | Darwin Tapayan, EFM Kalibo
