Be precise in reporting birth info, PSA told Aklanons
The Philippine Statistics Authority Aklan is reminding Aklanons to ensure that all information are true and correct in reporting birth occurrences at the civil registry office.
According to Antonet Catubuan, Provincial Statistics Officer, it is important to ensure that all information is exact and truthful to avoid problems that may arise later on.
“Inconsistencies of information, missing entries, or erroneous data in the civil registry document pose a lot of burden to person, which we do not want to happen,” Mrs. Catubuan said.
That is why the PSA is advocating to all to be meticulous in reporting the spelling of names, dates and other information being asked during registration.
“Once the document is registered it becomes a permanent record and any corrections should to go through a process either by administrative or court order,” PSO Catubuan explained.
Corrections of defective civil registry documents are govern by the following laws or issuances:
*RA 9048- for correction of clerical/typographical error, and change of name;
*RA 10172- for correction of sex, month and day of birth (except year of birth);
*RA 9858- legitimation for children born to parents below marrying age;
*RA 9255- for illegitimate children to carry the surname of the father;
*Administrative Order 1 Series of 1993- supplemental report for those with missing or omitted entries.
Meanwhile, the PSA is encouraging individuals who have still no birth certificate to avail one by visiting the local civil registry office.
For those who were born in other municipality, an applicant can apply for out-of-town registration at the civil registry office of the LGU where they are residing.
“In this way, we can attain our target that all Filipinos have birth certificate by 2024 as our commitment to Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade initiative,” PSO Catubuan explained
Hence, the theme of this civil registration month is anchored on “Inclusive and Responsive CRVS: Working Smarter through Innovation.”
Aside from birth, marriage and death information should also be reported correctly and truthfully.
An error-free civil registry documents according to PSA are essential in the production of quality vital statistics which are inputs in development planning and policy formulation./ PSA-Aklan
